THE SASKATOON FARM
THE STORY
Just outside of Okotoks, where the Highwood and Sheep Rivers meet, The Saskatoon Farm is a place of undeniable abundance. What began in 1987 as a barley field, it was transformed by Paul & Karen Hamer, and their family, into a lush and cherished retreat in the heart of the foothills.
The farm is home to multiple greenhouses, a restaurant & bakery, gift shops, seasonal markets, and berry picking excursions. Set to the backdrop of expansive prairie views, it is a one-of-a-kind destination for locals and tourists alike.
Based on the farm’s namesake berry we designed a robust family of marks and badges, designed to be versatile and flexible across packaging, merch & collateral. Like the farm, it is full of eclectic details, and natural vistas - and it was important that the brand also be a reflection of the charisma and deep rooted care of its owners.
AFTER
BEFORE
Our design challenge — to pay tribute to the farm’s origin story, and the eclectic history of label designs, while also creating a distinctive and highly functional suite of labels for the expansive menu of provisions. The jams, syrups and pies are cherished souvenirs that help to tell the story of the land they come from.
The ‘Buffalo Babe’ had graced the front of saskatoon products for many years and had become an icon in her own right - so we re-envisioned her as a vibrant and timeless cowgirl.
We choose a bold colour palette and expressive typography to give The Saskatoon Farm team everything they needed to unite their visual identity on-site and online. Along with custom maps, patterns and landscape illustrations, every piece was crafted to encapsulate the joy and delight of being on the farm.
“Working with Feast has been a dream come true. We are family run and have been in business for 40 years - meaning we had a lot of story and sentimental imagery which made doing anything related to packaging a total nightmare. Their patience and capacity to understand who we are and how we want to be portrayed was fine tuned and very much appreciated. The level of detail and care they maintained through to the end is impressive and will certainly have me recommending them for years to come. Tasks that used to be painful, are now one of the best parts of the job.”
